Welcome to our BIoethics Seminar's Info-website, Japan (^o^)!!
In Japan, much of the recent interest in bioethics is seen as a response to various civic movements which formulate a public policy based on the advocacy of the dignity of human beings. The women's liberation movement, access to equal opportunity, and the recognition of patients' rights and the importance of informed consent are among some of the movements influencing the development of bioethics in Japan. Bioethics is a totally new interdiscipline for the Japanese lay public, if not for the medical profession in general.
So, Bioethics...It's a new academic field and a movement that originate new values and social agreement that open up a new world in the future.
Our bioethics seminar which is in the Department of Human Health Sciences, and the School of Human Sciences, Waseda University has a wide sphere of research activities. We study various bioethical issues and problems, such as genetic recombination, in-vitro fertilization, AIDS, brain death and an organ transplant, death and dying, gene therapy in the social, natural, and environmental context. Particularly, we learn from various case studies of patients' rights, clinical testings, terminal care, etc.
In the seminar, we are required full participation in the discussion of bioethics. So, all the members exchange views with one another on each bioethical interest and concern aiming to the practical solution.
Through this
"WASEDA BIOETHICS WEBSITE", we'll continue to inform of such the seminar's activities to the public as part of the bioethical studies.
Do you have anything to say about the bioethical issues? Please send us your candid opinion by E-mail!!
The
"WASEDA BIOETHICS WEBSITE" is updated often, so please check back regularly for new informations, thank you!!
